“THE GOSPEL OF GETTING RICH”
Dr. John Helgeland
The phenomenon known as "prosperity gospel" -- the belief that God wants you to be rich -- has come under new examination and criticism during the current economic recession as televangelists and other proponents of that brand of theology continue to prosper.
Dr. Helgeland is a professor in the Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies at North Dakota State University. He has extensively studied televangelists.

As we welcome eight new members to the congregation and dedicate seven children to the congregation's care, we also celebrate the tapestry of racial, cultural and economic diversity that enriches this religious community. How do we strengthen our diversity as we grow our congregation?

“HOW MY WORK REFLECTS MY VALUES”
Walter Piehl
Walter Piehl is a vibrant artist whose creativity transcends his Western themes. He combines an expressionistic style with literal and interpretive investigations of many facets of Western American life. His work is often large in scale (48 inches or more), in series, abstract, and saturated with color and contrast. The artist grew to love horses and the rodeo at an early age thanks to his father; a horse trader and part-time rodeo producer. Walter also worked as a rodeo announcer for thirty years.

GUEST AT YOUR TABLE
Janis Cheney
During this season of giving, our congregation joins together to celebrate the tradition of Guest at Your Table. This service is in honor of the seventh principle of Unitarian Universalism: our covenant to affirm and promote respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part. On this day, we welcome unseen guests from around the world introduced to us through the work of the UU Service Committee. Help celebrate these courageous individuals.

“NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY: WE ALL BENEFIT”
Dan Tokach and Allen Irish
Coming out is when people acknowledge, accept and appreciate their sexual orientation or gender identity and begin to share that with others. In 1970, The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations became the first religious faith to speak out against the discrimination that impacted the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Dan Tokach and Allen Irish are officers in Dakota Outright, a Bismarck-Mandan GLBT rights group.
