Description

The religious history of the American people is filled with memorable and often eccentric figures: brilliant minds, self-taught princes of the pulpit, indefatigable reformers, and solitary dreamers. Inspired and inspirational women—many called Mother by follower and critic alike—have been among the most creative forces in the American religious experience, often fighting against great odds to gain a hearing and offer an alternative vision. On this Mother’s Day, Peter Huff introduces us to his favorite women in the story of American religion.

Peter A. Huff serves as director of the Center for University Ministry and professor of theology at the University of Mary. The author of four books, he writes on American religious history ad dialogue among world religions.
